DIRECT-DCIS
Dynamic Integrative Risk forEcasting to Conquer overTreatment of Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DIRECT-DCIS) is a national multicenter consortium, funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). DCIS is treated as a precursor of breast cancer, while most DCIS never progress into invasive breast cancer. DIRECT-DCIS aims to develop and evaluate innovative artificial intelligenc (AI) systems, inspired by weather prediction models, to predict the risk of invasive breast cancer in women diagnosed with DCIS, and consequently adapt their treatment for DCIS. In the randomized DIRECT-DCIS-UMBRELLA trial, using the TwiCs design, we will evaluate the actual impact of the AI model on anxiety, women’s health outcomes, hospital healthcare decisions, shared decision making and other PROs.
