Background
Sofie Gernaat is a clinical epidemiologist, assistant professor, with a doctoral degree from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands and postdoctoral training at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. Her current research work is on improving health outcomes and quality of life of individuals with breast cancer. With a strong focus on validation and implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in breast cancer care. Sofie is co-PI of the European ARTILLERY, a consortium on developing, evaluating and implementation of AI systems to identify the risk of chronic diseases in breast cancer patients. Also she is co-PI of the Dutch multicenter longitudinal UMBRELLA cohort (>7000 individuals with breast cancer), and partner in DIRECT-DCIS, a consortium using AI to conquer overtreatment of ductal carcinoma in situ. In addition, she is (co)-investigator in a variety of international scientific papers, teacher in clinical epidemiology and supervisor of master and PhD students.
